(as of October 2010)
About the Museum
The St. Bernard Dog Museum is located in Martigny in Switzerland and is managed by Foundation Bernard et Caroline de Watteville. The museum is home to art objects and other items that tell the story of the Great St. Bernard hospice and pass. The legendary St Bernard dogs are an integral part of the museum where you can have the chance to see and hug them inside and outside the museum. Children and photos are allowed.
Ground Floor: You will find the dog kennel with dog boxes and the area where the animals are kept. The dogs’ boxes lead outside to a pen situated in a park where you will find the dogs. Visitors can also watch the dogs inside the museum or outside from a footbridge. This level is where the gift shop and the restaurant are situated.
First Floor: The area displays the history of St. Bernard Dogs through interactive screens, posters and photos. A film on St. Bernard Dogs is on show in a small theater. Don’t forget to ask the reception desk for your English translation device which comes free with your ticket.
Second Floor: Place for special exhibitions.
Restaurant: You can select a table inside the dining area or outside on the shaded terrace in the garden. You will be able to choose your meal from the day’s selection, or from the grill. Snacks are also available. On request, private functions outside normal hours can be arranged.
